Westworld Season 2: When Is It Being Released, Cast, Fan Theories and Everything Else

There’s a long wait in store for fans of the violent masterpiece.

Westworld may have brought its fair share of jaw-dropping twists to our screens in 2016, but being renewed for a second season from HBO shortly after the conclusion of season 1 wasn’t one of the bigger ones.

The sci-fi wild west dystopia captivated audiences with beautiful storytelling – and in terms of viewership figures, it outperformed even the mighty Game of Thrones.

Now  everyone’s attention has been diverted to show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy as they get ready to take us back into the maze. Here’s a thorough breakdown of everything we already know about Westworld season two (so far).

Westworld season 2 release date: When is Westworld back on our screens?

Even the news that Westworld was being renewed for another season was infused with a unique twist of its very own: Westworld season 2 wouldn’t be released until 2018.

Nolan said if the production:

The production is enormously challenging and ambitious, and so is the writing, so we said very early on that we wouldn’t be able to turn this around every year.

That may seem like an unnecessarily long wait, it’s really the best decision from the Westworld production team.

This is the same team that had to halt filming partway through the challenging production of their first 10 episodes in season 1 in order to rework the scripts.

Actor Luke Hemsworth – indeed, the elder brother of Chris and Liam – has even go as far as to suggest that taking a two-year break between seasons will help prevent a similar break in production in season 2.

They don’t want to go in doing what they were doing last time, where they were under the cosh the whole time,” he said. “They want to go in with a clear plan – A to Z and everything in between.

Westworld season 2 filming: When do they start shooting?

According to Ed Harris, the formidable Man in Black, ten new episodes of Westworldwill begin filming in summer 2017, “probably June or July“. Far be it from us argue with him.

Harris has similarly suggested that filming of the “trippy” Westworld season two will likely have concluded by the end of the year, explaining:

They’re committed to having the scripts done to shoot so we’re done by Christmas

Nolan posted the title page of the premier of Westworld season 2 on Reddit back in June, but was careful to obscure the episode’s title. Only ‘Journey into N…’ was visible…

Westworld season 2 fan theories: What’s going to happen in Westworld next?

The initial season of Westworld concluded with the Hosts set up to fight back against their human masters, as Ford’s complicated masterplan finally came to fruition.

Nolan said:

If the first season was defined by control, the second season is defined by chaos, that’s part of what we come to understand Ford has been planning all along.

Ford has set in motion what he thinks is a plan. The nature of that plan is something we explore in the second season – what his intentions are. Are they to let Dolores or the other Hosts escape? Are they simply to teach the human guests a lesson?

But will Ford be around to see what he’s achieved? Many fans have speculated that he’s still alive and that the Ford we saw die in the finale was a Host duplicate.
