Scientists Have Found an Earth-Like Planet, Our Second Home in Less Than 20 Years

We could finally have a new home outside the earth. It was stated that scientists have discovered a planet which could serve as a second residence for mankind in less than twenty years from today.

European Southern Observatory (ESO) led this amazing discovery. The said planet where most of us could reside is said to possess all the ideal conditions needed to support the human existence.

The unnamed planet has a number of qualities that makes it very similar to our Earth. It is 4.2 light years away from our solar system. It orbits a star called Proxima Centauri.

According to reports, the planet could be much like the Earth. Since it orbits at a distance to Proxima Centauri, its surface could have liquid water. Such is an essential requirement to support the emergence of life. This is the first time that scientists were able to discover a second Earth that is so close to us.

If there is one thing that the majority of us are hoping now, that is for the news about Earth number 2 to be true. With the current condition of our planet, we hope that it could accommodate extra-terrestrial life forms.

And when these findings are accurate, Russian billionaire Yuri Milner along with Mark Zuckerberg and Stephen Hawking will most likely keep their focus on visiting Proxima Centauri. Milner was known for his search for potential life.

As part of Milner’s efforts to execute his plans, Project Starshot sends tiny rockets into the space. It will serve as the primary instrument to learn more about the far universe. It allows people to photograph the other planets that have the biggest chances to support life.

The original plan of Milner is to explore Alpha Centauri. Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to the solar system. Milner’s goal is to be able to perform his plans in the coming years.

The space craft is actually very promising. It can travel 20 per cent of the speed of light. This means if they had a bit of a re-think, it wouldn’t be impossible to reach the Earth-like planet orbiting Proxima Centauri. It will only take less than 20 years to be able to do so.

However, Professor Phillip Lubin insisted that the Earth-like planet is not their focus. Their aim is to continue exploring Alpha Centauri. Lubin is currently working on Project Starshot along with many others.

For now, we could only be waiting for more discoveries to be revealed. It is nice to know that we could have a second planet. It is also interesting to think that humans, animals and tress are not the only living things in the wide universe.
