Being invited to the Royal Box to watch the Wimbledon men’s tennis final is something that many people dream of.
But for Lewis Hamilton, his visit to Wimbledon was cut short – all because he wasn’t dressed for the occasion!
The decision not to let the F1 star in has sparked widespread debate, with the world of Twitter going into meltdown.
It will of course be of little consolation to Lewis though, who missed Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer going toe-to-toe as his floral shirt and hat failed to meet dress requirements.
Meanwhile, Djokovic secured his third Wimbledon title in four sets – what a way to celebrate his first wedding anniversary!
Given that invites clearly state that a jacket, tie and shoes are required, the racing star surely only has himself to blame – rules are rules after all?
But that didn’t stop the world of Twitter having their say and here are a few of the best responses, including some from other sports stars and celebrities, all keen to express an opinion.
Gary Lineker also had a say, and it certainly riled quite a few people…
Might be me, but turning away @LewisHamilton from the Royal box for not wearing a bloody jacket and tie shows England as its pompous worst.

@GaryLineker Disagree. Paperwork is quite clear. Awkward for everyone to have to step in and say "I'm sorry Sir but…"

If I invited Lewis Hamilton to an event I'd expect him to turn up looking like Lewis Hamilton, but rules are rules I guess.

People abusing Lewis Hamilton over something as petty as a dress code, he looked smart in his own way. A nation full of bitter/bitchy people

.@LewisHamilton wear what makes you feel comfortable. If one club/society won't accept you for being YOU, there are plenty others that will
